Custom Sizing & Measurement Development

Custom Clothing Size Guide & Measurement Specification

Retail size names and UK, US or EU conversions vary between brands. Florix Sports manufactures from the approved body measurements, finished-garment measurements, grading rules and tolerances for each project.

Manufacturing rule: the approved sample and final measurement chart control bulk production, not a generic online conversion chart.

Step 1

Record Body Measurements Correctly

Use a flexible tape, keep it level and measure over light clothing without pulling it tight. Record the units used. For children's garments, use actual height and body measurements rather than age alone.

Chest, Waist and Seat

Measure level around the fullest or natural points without pulling the tape tight.

Shoulder and Sleeve

Agree the shoulder start point and measure to the cuff over a slightly bent elbow.

Inside Leg

Measure from the crotch point to the required trouser hem.

Step 2

Define Finished-Garment Measurements

Lay a suitable reference garment flat without stretching it. State whether each value is a half width or full circumference.

Recommended points of measurement
PointMethod
Half chest / pit to pitAcross from underarm seam to underarm seam.
High-point shoulder to hemFrom the shoulder-neck point to the finished hem.
Sleeve lengthState whether the start is the shoulder seam or centre back.
Waist relaxed / stretchedMeasure the waistband flat at rest and at the agreed safe stretch.
Rise, inseam and outseamMeasure each point separately and identify exact start and finish.
Leg openingMeasure the hem flat and state relaxed or stretched.

Step 3

Approve Grading Rules and Tolerances

A compression top, oversized hoodie, tailored jacket and youth uniform require different grading. The final chart should identify units, measuring method, relaxed or stretched state, size-to-size increments and allowed tolerance for every critical point.

Base Size

Choose the sample size used to develop the first pattern.

Grade Rule

Approve how measurements change between sizes.

Tolerance

State acceptable tolerances for measurements and logo placement.

Step 4

Develop and Approve the Intended Fit

Compression, regular, relaxed, oversized and team-uniform fits require different ease, stretch and movement allowances. Approve the physical sample, measurement chart and grading before bulk production.
